Welcome to NYCity, an archive of New York’s less-glamorous places. We make postcards!
We’re a gift shop on the edge of town, devoted to the in-betweens and outskirts
of infrastructure in the Greatest City in the World.
Our shop sells a piece of a visit, but specifically an online visit—no real travel necessary.

Some of our locations are available in virtually unlimited editions;
those are places already adjacent and acclimated to tourism.
You might find other places out of stock,
out of respect to their utility, privacy, or remoteness. But check back soon!

The NYCity Story

Our digital imaging system (screengrabs from Google Maps animations in “Street View”)
allows the passage of time to come to life: in the blink of an eye,
the weather and time of day change; buildings are razed and new ones are built;
people are displaced; ventures boom and bust; nature creeps back in.
To lend our souvenirs that special flavor, we’ve featured three texts on the backs of our postcards.
They’re chopped into new arrangements for new meanings.
The more people purchase souvenirs on the site, the more the texts will separate
and regain their singular voices. Many thanks to the authors.

Thank you for your business!

taught by Ritu Ghiya. Thank you Ritu, and classmates, for contributing your advice!
This website was designed by Saskia Globig in the Fall of 2024.

It is the online manifestation of a fabricated archive, which can also be perused on Saski’s laptop
or at our brick-and-mortar location coming soon to 1156 Chapel Street, in the last two weeks of Dccember 2024.
We look forward to seeing you there.
